His leadership has been exemplified locally and nationally, as an educator, peace maker and Imam throughout the state of Oregon. He provides national consultation on chaplain work for Imams.
Shabazz was the first Imam to lead the invocation prayer for the Oregon House of Representatives and the first Imam to lead the Jumah (Friday Pray) at the Oregon Veterans Administration Hospital. The resident Imam of the Muslim Community Center of Portland, from 1987 - 2000, Imam Mikal H Shabazz lead the sermons, community outreach, program and interfaith dialogue.
His lectures have been heard for over 10-years as guest presenter on the Islamic Point of View on KBOO radio, and local community access TV. Imam Mikal H Shabazz have been featured in numerous local and national news articles and publications - most- most recently a Huffington Post article on the rise of white supremacy in Portland Oregon.

Mikal Shabazz was appointed Chair of the City of Portland Bureau of development Services Diversity Development Committee 2006 – 2009 and became a founding member and Co-Chair of the City of Portland all bureau diversity Committee; DEEP – (Diverse and Empowered Employees of Portland) 2007- 2009.
Imam Shabazz made the required pilgrimage to Mecca Saudi Arabia in 2000. He returned as Al Hajj Imam Shabazz.
Soon thereafter, Shabazz co-founded the Oregon Islamic Chaplain Organization (OICO), a non profit to provide social and religious services to Muslim men returning to their community from incarceration.
In addition, Imam Shabazz is a professional speaker, a life coach, a licensed plumber and a cultural competency trainer for working with diverse population in faith.

Al-Hajj Imam Mikal H Shabazz is a married father of 9 adult offspring, grandfather of 15, father to 7 adult offspring through marriage and grandfathers to seven children. Hobby: Hobby- Fishing, fishing, fishing.
